New Year's Resolutions

I hate making resolutions. I pump myself up for the last few weeks of the year with all kinds of things-lose weight, workout, quit smoking, write more, submit to different publishers, update my blog more often... So many things that when the new year hits, I've set myself up to fail.

This year, I'm going about it differently. First off, the only goal I had when the new year rang in was to finish my current manuscript. The Rememdiu hit my editor's email last Sunday night. The resolution wasn't too difficult and I could pat myself on the back for accomplishing something.

My next goal started on January 4th. I vowed to eat better. Not starve myself, no fad diets, no diet pills. Just eat better. Choose chicken over beef, use a smaller plate, buy fruit instead of chips. And don't berate myself when I splurge on a hamburger and fries once in a while. So far so good.

January 30th will be a hard one. Along with several friends from work, I've made a pact to quit smoking. Yes, nasty habit that it is, I smoke. I have for more years than I care to think about. But I'm going to give it a shot.

I will write more. I love writing. It's not a chore or something I need to change so it doesn't fit into the "need to do" category with most resolutions.

I don't consider these to be "New Year's resolutions" as much as incremental goals to make life better. Changing my wicked ways won't be easy but I think I can make it. Stay tuned to see how it all turns out!

Hugs,
Shayla

Hey there, girlfriend! You need to read my resolutions! I started out saying I always have "lose weight" and "quit the ciggies", but those are ones I'll have to tackle when I don't have a deadline breathing down my neck. One book at a time? Ha! I know you better than that. It will just take the right project to draw you away like something sparkly!! This year's gonna be awesome for you. Delilah Devlin
